I notice the newer Sterns also have the speaker panel tilted back like this. I like the look of it that way and it should be a better viewing angle for the DMD when playing. The panel is tilted back by 10 degrees when mounted in the backbox. The speaker holes were cut in a similar way but as they were an old pair of PC speakers I used the original speaker housing as my router guide as that was obviously the perfect size for the speakers. Finally I used my router and a flush trim bit to follow that template and cut a perfect hole. I then cut the rough shape of the hole out of the MDF panel using a jigsaw and then clamped my template to the back of the panel. I've been dreading this part but after lots of planning I got it spot on I think.įor the DMD window I made a template from 2 pieces of thick grey board which I cut with a craft knife and ruler and then glued together. I have the coin door finished, it started life as a cheap white access panel but with a few modifications it makes a fairly respectable faux coin door. That did the trick!
